Passed away peacefully at the St. Lawrence Lodge on Monday, June 4, 2018. George Albert Herr, at the age of 94 years. George was born in London, Ontario on February 8, 1924 to Gordon and Agnes Herr. Raised on a farm just north of London, with his ten siblings, he attended school in Thorndale and graduated from high school in London. Following his graduation, George managed the family farm for many years. After holding various jobs, he began working for the federal government in 1963 as a technical inspector - weights and measures, in London and Western Ontario.

In 1961, he met Shirley Acheson when she had a job transfer from Vancouver to London. They married in 1963 and had two sons, Kevin and Ian. In 1973, George was transferred to Brockville, where he worked out of the Belleville and Ottawa offices until his retirement in 1989.

George enjoyed singing, great times and friendships with the Barber Shoppers from 1977 to 2000 and with the Wall Street United Church Choir, where he was an active member, for over 20 years. Over the years, George and Shirley travelled extensively throughout Canada, the U.S., Mexico, Costa Rica, Alaska, Hawaii, Israel, Jordan, the British Isles and Europe. They took 15 cruises to places like the Caribbean Islands, Hawaii, Bermuda, Alaska, the Panama Canal and the Bahamas.

George will be missed by his wife of over 54 years and by their son Ian and his wife Audrey. He will also be missed by his two grandchildren Trevor and Charlotte, his sister Maxine, sister-in-law Kathie Herr, and by several nieces and nephews and their families. George was predeceased by his son Kevin in 2001, his parents, his brothers Russell, Douglas, Murray and Jim, his sisters Anna, Mabel, Jean and Marian, a brother in infancy and by a nephew Gordon Herr.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Sunday, June 10th from 6-8 pm. A ceremony celebrating George's life will be held in the chapel on Monday, June 11th at 1 pm. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the St. Lawrence Lodge Foundation or Wall Street United Church will be gratefully acknowledged.
